Dr. Burns has been in practice as a licensed psychologist for over 20 years. She earned a Doctorate in Psychology (PsyD) in 1996 from Widener University’s Institute for Graduate Clinical Psychology, and has lived and practiced in Georgia since that time.
Experienced with trauma/PTSD, foster care and adoption, Anxiety/Depression/Bipolar Disorder, ADHD, family conflict and family of origin issues, abuse and neglect, anger and stress management, relationship issues, behavioral and school-related issues, and a variety of other emotional and psychological issues.
Additional training and experience in play therapy, EMDR, Clinical Hypnotherapy, teaching traditional and trauma-sensitive yoga, meditation and breathing exercises, mindfulness, reiki, polyvagal theory, DFCS/expert witness testimony regarding the best interest of children, and Red Cross/disaster response.
Has seen clients and/or supervised graduate psychology students in a variety of settings, including private practice, Child Advocacy Center, practice specializing in sexual abuse and acting out, therapeutic boarding school, wilderness program, and inpatient psychiatric hospital.
